Justin Johnson is a performer, clinician, adjudicator and composer within the areas of concert and marching percussion. Upon graduating from Bassett High School (Bassett, VA), Justin has participated in multiple ensembles there which performed within the Bands of America (BOA) and Winter Guard International (WGI) circuits. He has also performed in outside ensembles such as the Virginia Helmsmen Independent Open Percussion Ensemble, the Standing Room Only Jazz Orchestra, Urban Essence/Bernard Hairston Group, and Atlanta CV Drum & Bugle Corps. He is also a member of the Percussive Arts Society (PAS) and the North Carolina Music Educators Association (NCMEA).
Justin received a Master's degree in Percussion Performance from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and has a Bachelors of Science in Music, with an emphasis in Music Education & Performance from Radford University. During his undergraduate studies Justin participated in the Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Jazz Ensemble/Combos, Percussion Ensemble, and Pep Band. During his graduate studies he participated in the Symphonic Orchestra, Percussion Ensemble, and recorded with the Wind Ensemble on several released albums. During his career, Justin has had the privilege of studying under Scott Allred, Daniel Boothe, Tim Bray, Michael Burritt, Todd Hammes, Teddy Holcomb, Allen Joanis, Kristopher Keeton, Fillippo Lattanzi, Jerry Noble, Chris Romanowski, Robert Sandrel, Thomas Taylor, Paula Williams, Al Wojtera, and Nebojsa Zivkovic.
Justin serves as the Director of Percussion at Jamestown Middle and Ragsdale High School (Jamestown, NC), Adjunct Professor of Percussion at Catawba College, and Vice-President of the North Carolina Chapter and Marching and Rudimental Percussion Committee member of the Percussive Arts Society.
Currently Justin resides in High Point, NC with his wife Tierra and daughters Zoe & Gianna.
